Home Flooring Styles :: Hardwood Floor Cleaning Hardwood Floor Cleaning:Take Care with Hardwood Floor CleaningNow that you have your new floor installed, I will give you some insight for hardwood floor cleaning. You will want to keep your floor nice looking for as long as you possible can and this means regular care. You don’t have to do a daily washing. In fact the floor won’t like that at all if it is real wood and not laminate. Soft Sweep Only You can sweep it with a soft broom or dust mop daily to get the dirt and dust off the floor, Vacuum a couple times a week to get the fine stuff the broom misses. This is the stuff that will scratch the floor and dull its finish. Water is not a good thing to use for your hardwood floor cleaning, if the floor isn’t properly sealed water can get into the cracks and discolor and warp the wood in time. So make sure any spills are wiped up immediately. This will also avoid staining the floor. Be Careful with the Mop Next in the process of hardwood floor cleaning you can use a VERY damp mop, not a soaked one or the water will get into the floor. You may want to think about putting carpet runners on the high traffic areas to help preserve the floor. These need to be vacuumed daily because if the dirt on carpets filters through to the floor the friction will dull the surface. Make the room with wood floors a no shoe area, shoes like heels and heavy boots will dent and mar the finish. Be careful with furniture too, dragging it on the floors will scratch it up for sure. Get some thick felt pads for under the legs of the furniture. Doormats and Hardwood Floors Floor mats by the doors will catch a good amount of the dirt that is tracked in from outside. Now on to the hardwood floor cleaning: do the above sweep, vacuum and damp mop routine; by damp I mean, take a sprayer and lightly spray the mop. Use a hardwood floor cleaner, one that is made just for hardwood floor cleaning. There are plenty of them on the market so you will have a choice. A vinyl or laminate floor is different and actually easier to maintain than hardwood. However if you follow instructions and take care of the hardwood floor cleaning as directed your floor will not have to be refinished for many years, maybe just a coat of wax a few times a year to keep its gloss. That’s hardwood floor cleaning 101! All Articles for Home Flooring Styles
